i have a confession to make.
i have tofu in my fridge and i'm scared.
i eat tofu at restaurants, but i've never made it at home.
i decided to just open the tofu and try cooking it a few different ways.
seared it in a pan on the stove with a little soy sauce after...good.
grilled....eeehhhhh, not my favorite.
i have a favorite tofu salad i order at a sushi restaurant...i thought they dredged the tofu in flour and then cooked it...but apparently that's not exactly what they do, because it wasn't the same. again, not my favorite.
so a couple of verdicts from last night.
standing at the stove eating bites of tofu by itself is not that appealing to me.
and i think i'll just stick to ordering it in every restaurant that serves it.
unless you have a fool-proof way for me to fix tofu.
i am willing to try again.

make sure you soak up all the water before you cook it (i.e. with a strong paper towel) if you have a less-than-'firm' density of tofu. I've found that the more 'squishy' it is (when I cook it at home), the less likely I'll be cooking it again. The more firm it is, the more it is like the real texture of meat and edible. You can also marinade it which is really good! Look for different ways of cooking it online! Pan frying/searing in a wok with other asian sauces and vegetables is my favorite way or with asian-y salads :) Now, I must go find some myself! But my tip (learning from experience)is to always buy the 'firm' kind from the grocery store! And being that you are in THE Chinatowns of ALL Chinatowns in America-you can surely find a rockin' Asian grocery store tucked away in Chicago ;)
